12 Feb Beaches in Gargano: where are the most beautiful?
The beaches in Gargano are another of Puglia’s treasures to be discovered. This region never ceases to amaze and enchant, with its charm recognized throughout the world.
After all Lonely Planet, National Geographic and the New York Times all agree: Puglia is the most beautiful travel destination all around the world. And those who have come to the heel of the boot at least once in their lives can only confirm this.
Where is the Gargano
Before listing the most beautiful beaches in Gargano let’s geolocalize them. We are in the Gargano National Park, in one of the largest and most beautiful protected natural areas in Italy. This area coincides with the mountainous promontory of Gargano, which characterizes the north of Puglia.
The Tremiti islands with their marine protected area are part of this territory. Here, in addition to the scenic beauty there is also a lot of natural beauty. The 5 islands of the Tremiti archipelago are, in fact, a treasure in terms of biodiversity.
But the Gargano is also much more. Here you will find views that are always different and fascinating. Among bays, beaches, stacks and cliffs here there is so much to admire. 140 km of beauty: the Gargano Coast could be described in this way to those who don’t know it and are thinking about their next destination for their summer vacations in Italy. Between the beach of Pizzomunno, the Bay of Mergoli or that of Zagare there is plenty of choice.
This part of the Apulian coast is full of breathtaking landscapes. From the island of Varano to Mattinata alternating coves with sheer cliffs overlooking the sea but also beaches, dunes, pine forests and lots of Mediterranean scrub. Everything is jealously protected by the Gargano Promontory that makes the landscape even more impressive and unique.
There are many Blue Flag beaches in this part of Puglia, but also beaches for families with children or uncontaminated places perfect for adventure lovers. There is everything you want when, closing your eyes, you dream of a memorable vacation.
Beaches in Gargano: Cocobuk tips
Listing just a few of the most beautiful beaches in Gargano is very difficult, but we have tried. It is worth remembering, however, that there is so much more to see and discover. Losing yourself among the coves and beaches, you can discover places that are often little known but just as unique. For nature lovers, this is an unmissable opportunity.
The Baia delle Zagare (Bay of the Zagare) stands out among the Gargano beaches. We are in Mattinata, on the coast road that leads to Vieste. And it is here that you can encounter the splendour. The Baia delle Zagare is a white beach framed by two stacks that create natural arches. To get to the beach, you have to walk along a path, which takes about 15 minutes, but the effort is well worth the spectacle. This is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful beaches in Gargano and the whole of Puglia.
Equally famous is the Beach of Pizzomunno, sung about in the most beautiful texts and narrated by myth. We are in Vieste and the 25-metre white monolith that characterises the beach is unique and beautiful.
Also at Vieste is the Spiaggia dei Colombi (Pigeon Beach) with its cave. Here the water is transparent and the sand is very fine and surrounded by scrubland and a beautiful pine forest. The hottest hours of the day are very hot here, but the Grotta dei Colombi offers picturesque shelter.
For those who love caves and beaches that are less easy to reach but wonderful to enjoy, we recommend the Grotta Sfondata. This is one of the most astonishing natural beauties on the entire coast and can be reached by boat. There is a small beach inside the cave. Hardly anyone knows about it, but it is well worth the effort.
Those who prefer the sandy beaches of the Gargano cannot but appreciate the Zaiana Beach, always protected from the hot southern winds and therefore very pleasant. We recommend it especially in the morning because when the sun begins to set, the cliff above it begins to create a bit of shade – a shame for sunbathers.
Porto Greco Beach is also among the most beautiful beaches. Here, the Mediterranean scrub and the grottos of the Violas and Marbles make for an evocative landscape. The beach is protected from the wind and this is a plus that few people want to give up.
Among the Gargano beaches suitable for children, we recommend Rodi Garganico. In particular, the Spiagge di Ponente (western beach) and Spiagge di Levante (eastern beach) are easily accessible and full of establishments and activities designed for families.
There is so much to do and so much to see here, remembering that the Gargano also offers some of the most beautiful villages in Puglia. Organising a holiday in the Gargano allows you to combine sea, sun and fun. A real must for those who dream, after so many difficult months, of unplugging and living an unforgettable adventure.
