Torre Egnazia: beach and archaeological park

Near the sea you will find the Egnazia Archaeological Park, on of the most important archaeological site in Puglia. The finds are dating back to Roman times, when the city was a strategic point used by the Romans. The harbour was particularly important because from here it was possible to reach the beginning of the Via Egnatia (hence the name of the city) which connected the Adriatic Sea with the Aegean Sea.
Inside the archaeological park there is the famous Tomb of the Pomegranates, a tuff building excavated from the rock, which takes its name from the representations of the pomegranate fruit that cover the walls.
