Riviera di Ponente: the most beautiful beaches to discover

The Riviera di Ponente in Liguria is extremely beautiful and it is no surprise that it is one of the favourite destinations for tourists from all over the world who choose Italy for their holidays.

If we want to geolocate it, we are in that spectacular stretch of Ligurian coastline which rises proudly between Genoa and Ventimiglia. A few steps further on is France, but here we are still in the beating heart of an Italy that offers emotions and breathtaking landscapes.

The Riviera di Ponente, touched by the Ligurian Sea, comprises the so-called Riviera dei Fiori and the Riviera delle Palme, divided between the provinces of Imperia and Savona.

But what are the characteristics of this spectacular stretch of coastline? Let’s find out.

Everything you need to know about this part of the Ligurian coast

Here the coast is jagged and among the cliffs and the Mediterranean scrub everything smells of authenticity and citrus fruits. The Riviera di Ponente is characterised by its beautiful beaches, but also by some of Italy’s most beautiful seaside villages. In short, a real paradise to be discovered if you love nature but also if you want to discover the architectural and historical beauties of the area.

The most beautiful beaches on the Riviera di Ponente

The Ligurian coast is full of emotions, and there are some beautiful beaches along this stretch. We have, for example, Bergeggi Beach, which is one of the best known but also one of the least contaminated by the flow of people. It is located in the Bergeggi National Park and here you can come into contact with an authentic and sometimes wild nature, which appeals to many tourists who have a less set idea of a holiday and are more interested in sustainability and discovering the territory.

If you are looking for a beach for snorkelling but also a stretch of coastline with several well-equipped bathing establishments, we recommend the nearby Baia delle Sirene. A true paradise in many ways. Here you can also find peace and quiet, two things that are often lost on overcrowded beaches.

The Spiaggia dei Pescatori (Fishermen’s Beach) is also beautiful and certainly the most distinctive in the area. With its colourful boats, it gives the visitor a burst of energy. Of course, the crystal-clear sea and the coarse sandy beach complete the idyllic picture. The beach is also only a stone’s throw from the town centre, which is a plus for many people.

If you are looking for a rocky beach on the Riviera di Ponente, we recommend the Spiaggia delle Uova, also known as Balzi Rossi. Here there is a play of chromatic contrasts of no small importance. The rocks are formed from ferrous limestone from the Dolomites which gives them their typical red colour and are in stark contrast to the colour of the sea. A real treat for the eyes. In the area there are some of the coolest and best equipped bathing establishments on the Riviera.

These are just some of the beaches in this area that are waiting to be discovered and that have so much to offer that they have become one of the most popular destinations for your next holiday.
