19 Lug Discovering Sansone Beach on the Island of Elba
Sansone beach is one of the most beautiful and characteristic spots on the island of Elba. Although there are many beaches on the island, this one is undoubtedly one of the most welcoming and breathtaking, which is why it is also one of the most popular.
Where it is located and how to reach Sansone beach
We are in the heart of the Tuscan Archipelago National Park and, to be precise, on the most popular island, the Island of Elba. A popular destination for tourists from all over the world, Elba is known above all for the beauty of its beaches and nature.
We are in the northern part of the Island of Elba and the beach is just a few kilometres from Portoferraio, an excellent reference point for those visiting the island and wishing to stay in a strategic town to discover all its beauties. After all, there are 200 beaches on the Island of Elba, which is also why those who like to change and explore prefer this destination.
But the Beach of Sansone is one of the most beautiful and certainly one of those that absolutely must be visited. Anyone who has visited Sansone Beach knows that it is unmistakable, thanks to the eurite pebbles that the sun has smoothed and polished, and thanks to the white rock face entirely covered by Mediterranean scrub. It is a beautiful setting for this small but very characteristic cove.
Let us recall that only a year ago, the Spiaggia di Sansone became one of the 25 most beautiful beaches in Europe according to Tripadvisor.
To reach Sansone Beach on Elba, you have to get to Portoferraio and from there continue in the direction of Enfola. There is a small path leading to the beach, and on the way you can also see the Spiaggia Sorgente, another of Elba’s most beautiful beaches.
For those who wish, it is possible to reach the Sansone Beach by sea, either by private boat or by organised excursions.
What to do when visiting Sansone Beach
For those who are wondering what to do on Sansone Beach fearing boredom, we say don’t be afraid. The beach is appreciated both by those who seek the beauty of nature and a crystal-clear sea, and by those who enjoy snorkelling and diving. Between caves and ravines, the seabed has much to tell.
However, the beach is also frequented by those who enjoy canoeing as the conditions are suitable here. There are also spots from which to dive into Elba’s crystal-clear blue sea.
The reason of the name
But why is Sansone Beach called like that? Finding out makes it all the more fascinating. The name could, in fact, mislead by referring to Samson, a historical figure for Israel and famous for his fight against the Philistines.
Yet there seems to be no connection between the two, as Sansone is probably just a mispronunciation of the italian word for big rock. This refers to a large rock which is still present in the sea and which apparently fell as a result of a landslide.
No historical reference, therefore, but nevertheless a story that tells of the beauty and uniqueness of this beautiful area.
