What to do in Vieste: beaches
Where to start the long list to answer the most popular question of the summer, which is what to do in Vieste? Let’s start with the beaches, which, as mentioned, are among the most beautiful beaches in the Gargano. It is impossible to resist the charm of the so-called spur of Italy, and Vieste is just the perfect destination to visit the whole area.
Vieste’s beaches are mostly sandy and shallow, suitable for even the smallest of children. However, the quintessential symbol of the town is the Pizzomunno of Vieste, a tall and imposing monolith that stands in all its majesty on the Castle Beach.
We are south of the town, near the Swabian Castle of Vieste, and it is here that we find this 25-meter-high limestone monolith towering over the entire area. It is certainly one of the things everyone knows Vieste for, partly because its presence is linked to legends that have been passed down for generations. It is the legend of Cristalda and Pizzomunno, to which the italian singer Max Gazzè also dedicated the lyrics of one of his most famous songs.
Here also stands the stairway of love, which is always linked to the same legend that is told for the birth of the monolith and of which there are also many variations. What matters is that the beauty of this place is authentic and still unspoiled.
Other beaches in Vieste include the beach of Marina Piccola, which is the most central of all and runs from Punta San Francesco to Punta Santa Croce, merging with the ancient medieval village. Being a sandy beach it is very popular with families, as are Scialmarino beach and San Lorenzo beach.
Very striking is the Bay and Arch of San Felice, which lies south of Vieste and is another symbol of the small seaside village.
Tourist routes
But Vieste also has much more to discover. You can, for example, visit the sea caves of Vieste or you can discover one of the many nature trails in the area. However, what we recommend is a trip to the historic center, which is definitely at the top of the list of what to see in Vieste.
The ancient village of the town has kept its peculiar characteristics intact and still presents itself with its maze of narrow streets, squares and belvederes. Within the ancient walls what was once the medieval town has expanded but the palaces, churches and other complexes that still tell the story of this beautiful seaside town remain intact.
Our recommendations on what to see in Vieste can only end with the suggestion to fully enjoy your vacation, taking advantage of every minute.
